A chandelier, as you well know, is not only a functional object for lighting rooms in your home, but also represents a component of the furniture. A chandelier must therefore be able to combine efficiency and aesthetics.

Suspended chandeliers can be placed in a central point on the ceiling to illuminate the entire room evenly and effectively, trying not to leave any dark corners. In other cases, however, chandeliers can be placed in more peripheral points of the room to illuminate certain areas, such as the table of a dining or living room or the worktop of a kitchen.

In any case, no matter where they are placed, pendant lamps do not simply illuminate a room, but are an integral part of the furniture.

The choice of the perfect chandelier therefore varies according to the different rooms and depending on their style.

Aesthetics or functionality?

For some rooms the aesthetic aspect prevails over the functional one when choosing a chandelier; in others, the opposite is the case.

In foyers and entrances the aesthetic aspect is predominant. In these rooms the chandelier becomes the furnishing object par excellence and is a sort of preview of the style of the entire house. If you find the one-light suspension lamp from the Contemporary line for Arredo Luce in an entrance hall, you will undoubtedly expect a home furnished in a classic and luxurious style. The suspension lamps in the Chieti line for Ferroluce Classic, on the other hand, anticipate a home furnished in a rustic style.

In homes furnished in a modern and contemporary style, on the other hand, the functional aspect prevails over the aesthetic one. The various rooms are therefore illuminated by pendant lamps with a simple, efficient and at the same time elegant design in line with the furnishings. For example, Exclusive Light’s Line S120 pendant lamp is perfect for illuminating medium-sized rooms and can also be placed above a dining table.

Some small technical precautions

In order to choose the right chandelier, it is also necessary to observe a few small technical details. Depending on the square footage of a room, the diameter – or in any case the width – of the diffuser varies: for rooms between 10 and 15 m2 it is advisable to opt for a diameter between 30 and 45 cm; for larger rooms it is better to choose larger diffusers, up to 60 cm in diameter.

The height at which the chandelier should be positioned must also be taken into consideration, depending on the height of the ceiling and the area of the room in which it is placed: to illuminate the entire room, the chandelier must be placed at least 2.15 m above the floor; if it is placed on top of a table, it can go down to a maximum of 1.60 m from the floor.
